This is a very popular introductory level course which could help you get a job with veterinary practices, animal welfare and rescue, boarding kennels and catteries, pet stores or grooming parlours. You could also progress onto a National Award or National Certificate in Animal Management.

About the course

This course has a good balance of practical and theoretical studies, including a four week block of work experience within the animal care industry. You can develop your Maths, English or ICT skills to functional skills level 1 or 2.

Entry requirements

  • A combination of GCSEs at grade D. A strong emphasis is placed on English, Maths and Science grades or

  • A Foundation course in Animal Care plus 2 key skills at level 1

  • Some practical work experience (at least 2 weeks) and a keen interest in animals is essential
