City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants

The City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants is run over 20 weeks, with attendance at college one day a week. You will need to attend the college one day a week and will experience working in our professional standard grooming parlour with a range of dog breeds of various coat types, and grooming, clipping and styling requirements. Numbers are strictly limited to 6 candidates per course.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course, though previous experience of handling a range of dogs would be an advantage.

Course content

During this course you will study both underpinning knowledge and develop your practical skills. You will take 8 modules, which include:

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
  • Bath and clean dogs
  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
  • Control and restrain animals
  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat
  • Move animals between locations
  • Welcome, receive and care for visitors to sites

Assessment

Assessment is through practical assessment, completion or assignment based work and a multiple choice test.

What you need to bring

Further information will be given in the joining instructions and on the first day.

Suitable clothing and PPE.

A file and notepaper will be needed to take notes and start production of your portfolio.

A camera/phone will be beneficial to enable you to take before and after photos.

All other equipment and products will be provided.

  • Tuesday 9.30am – 4.30pm, 20 weeks commencing 6th March 2018, ends 31st July 2018
  • Wednesday 9.30am – 4.30pm, 20 weeks commencing 7th March 2018, ends 1st August 2018

£1,500.00 – includes 20 weeks tuition, assessment, registration and certification

The City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming is run over 25 weeks, with attendance at college one day a week.  You will experience working in our professional standard grooming parlour with a range of dog breeds of various coat types, and grooming, clipping and styling requirements.  Numbers are strictly limited to 6 candidates per course.

These courses are suitable for people wanting a career as a professional groomer and have previous experience.

Entry requirements

Previous experience of handling and grooming a range of dogs is essential. Candidates must already have passed the the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants to be eligible to take the Level 3.

Course content

During this course you will study both underpinning knowledge and develop your practical skills.  You will take 4 modules, which include:

  • Health and Safety, legislation and code of practice for the dog grooming industry
  • Preparing, styling and finishing dogs
  • Health checking and handling a dog in a dog grooming environment
  • Customer service and record keeping in a dog grooming environment

Assessment

Assessment is through practical assessment, completion or assignment based work and an exam.
