Introduction

If you are interested in caring for animals, then this is the course for you.

About the course

This is a practical course for people with little or no experience of animal care, or who need to improve their confidence along with their reading and writing skills before moving on to another course. You will learn how to look after a variety of animals, ranging from rabbits, mice and snakes to sheep, pigs and cows.

The course includes

  • Feeding and watering animals

  • Cleaning and maintaining animal housing

  • Animal health/biology

  • Grooming dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs

  • Building animal housing, e.g. aviaries

  • Work experience placement

  • Customer care

  • Tractor driving

  • Functional skills in Maths, English or ICT

  • Some GCSEs at grades E/F. If you think your grades will be below E/F, we advise you to apply for the Entry Level Programme
