Student Profile
Curtis Cain

Ambition: Master craftsman

School: Ruskin Sports College, Crewe

Age: 17

Although he’s only been with us for a few months, Curtis already gains a sense of achievement when he views a wall he has just plastered.

He’s learned first stage rendering and skimming and is looking forward to gaining more complex skills as he progresses through our Level 2 and 3 courses. He’s also started his work placement with a local building company.

Curtis has always wanted to work in the construction industry and chose to learn plastering after watching tradesmen working at his home. He’s also taken inspiration from tv programmes like Grand Designs.

Curtis came to Reaseheath after GCSEs and had no problems settling in as he’d already studied adventure sports with us as a Year 10 and 11 pupil. And he’s very glad that he’s chosen a trade with good career opportunities.

“I thought plastering looked like fun and quite creative”, says Curtis. “I’m really enjoying learning different skills and seeing them come together. I think plastering is a good trade to be in because there’s a lot of work out there. Also you’re not just earning a living – you’re helping people to live more comfortably.”
