Student Profile
Tom Phillips

Ambition: Craftsman

School: The Grove School, Market Drayton

Age: 17

Tom must have made a good impression during his two week student placement with John Cliff Building Services in Market Drayton. He was offered an advanced apprenticeship with the company as soon as he’d finished his Level 2 qualification, allowing him to earn and learn at the same time.

Tom tried out both brickwork and joinery on our two week summer school before starting his training on our Level 1 (Foundation) brickwork course. He got off to a flying start and he’s been building on those skills ever since.

He’s enjoyed progressing onto our more technically demanding Level 2 course and has continued to make the most of college life, making new friends and using our modern facilities.

Tom enjoys working outside and having the satisfaction of creating something of lasting value. He says: “I think there’ll always be work for me in the construction trade. The best thing about the Level 2 course is that you’re encouraged to work on your own but there’s always help available if you need it.”
