Student Profile
Hayley Clayton

Ambition: Game keeper

School: Carrisbrook High School, Isle of Wight

Age: 21

A gamekeeper’s daughter, Hayley is passionate about traditional country sports and enjoys the satisfaction of rearing healthy game birds and managing wild places.

Although she has a lot of practical experience, she realised she needed a recognised qualification if she wanted to make gamekeeping her career.
Impressed with the in-depth content of Reaseheath’s course and by our substantial links with the industry, Hayley and her two dogs made the move to Cheshire – and they haven’t regretted it for a minute.

“This course offered me such a lot,” recalls Hayley. “I’m learning how to start up a shoot from scratch and how the industry operates commercially. These are really important skills and will put me in a good position to find a job.”

Although unusual, Hayley finds being a girl in a male dominated industry isn’t a problem. She’s as much at home building pens, putting up fencing and riding a quad bike as she is doing paperwork.

During her course she’s learned how to rear and care for game birds such as pheasant, partridge, grouse and she’s studied the wild boar industry in France. She’s also enjoyed gun dog training and she’s been back to the Isle of Wight for work experience on a big estate.

Although dyslexic, Hayley hasn’t found her coursework a problem thanks to our helpful staff. Definitely a people person, she’s loved the social life on campus too.
