Student Profile
Elysha Emberson

Ambition: Speciality cake maker

School: St Peter’s High School, Stoke

Age: 16

A talented baker with an eye for business, Elysha wants to run a shop offering decorated cakes for special occasions.

Keen on designing birthday and character cakes, she has spent this popular Level 2 course learning how to make commercial chocolates, truffles, bread and pastries and picking up important business skills.

As well as spending three sessions each week in our own bakery, Elysha has completed a four week’s work placement at a tea room, baking cakes and serving customers. She’s continued to work at the tea room part-time and even appeared with colleagues in Heston Blumenthal’s ‘Great British Food’ TV series in a programme featuring afternoon tea.

She also met an award winning cake decorator during a college visit to Cake International and was invited to spend a day with her at her cake decorating school in London.

Progressing onto our Level 3 Diploma in Professional Bakery, Elysha says: “I’ve taken great inspiration from all these experiences and, along with the skills I have learned at college, I hope to make better and better cakes! Everything I’ve learned will be really helpful when I start up my own business.”
