Leading to a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma

Calling all golf enthusiasts! This is your chance to train with the acclaimed Ian Woosnam Academy.

You will develop vital skills to prepare you for a career in the golfing industry, working with dedicated PGA coaches to develop your own training programmes. You will also explore greenkeeping and clubhouse management, along with sports physiology, psychology and nutrition.

Level 2 Diploma

What will I study?

  • Fitness for sport and exercise
  • Practical sports performance
  • The mind and sports performance
  • The sports performer in action
  • Training for personal fitness
  • Leading sports activities
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Injury and the sports performer
  • Running a sports event
  • Carrying out a sports related project
  • Designing exercise programmes
  • Work experience in sport
  • Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths depending on previous qualifications

How long will it take?

  • 1 year, full-time

What qualifications do I need to start?

  • 4 GCSEs at grades D or above, or
  • Foundation Level 1 in Sport and Active Leisure
  • You must be able to demonstrate an interest in golf. A high level of ability isn’t required to access the academy, but it is expected that you have some experience of playing golf. Training will then be based on your current level of performance

What qualifications will I gain?

Extended Diploma

What will I study?

Depending on your level of study you will cover all or some of the following modules:

  • Principles of anatomy and physiology (1/2 unit)
  • The physiology of fitness (1/2 unit)
  • Assessing risk in sport
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Fitness testing for sport and exercise
  • Sports nutrition
  • Psychology for sports performance
  • Technical and tactical skills in sport
  • The athlete’s lifestyle
  • Sports coaching
  • Exercise, health and lifestyle
  • Instructing physical activity and exercise
  • Sports injuries
  • Analysis of sports performance
  • Sport and exercise massage
  • Organising sports events
  • Sport as a business
  • Work experience in sport
  • Research investigation in sport and exercise sciences
  • You will have the opportunity to work towards additional qualifications
  • Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths depending on previous qualifications

How long will it take?

  • 2 years, full-time

What qualifications do I need to start?

  • At least 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English, Maths and Science, or
  • Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Distinction grade or equivalent Level 2 Diploma
  • You must be able to demonstrate an interest in golf. A high level of ability isn’t required to access the academy, but it is expected that you have some experience of playing golf. Training will then be based on your current level of performance

  • At least 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English, Maths and preferably Science or PE, or
  • Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit or Distinction grade or equivalent Level 2 Diploma
  • You must be able to demonstrate an interest in golf. A high level of ability isn’t required to access the academy, but it is expected that you have some experience of playing golf. Training will then be based on your current level of performance
