Keeper for the Day

Have you ever wanted to be a Keeper for the Day, or had an urge to work with animals? Then our Keeper for the Day sessions might be just what you’re looking for.

Working with our Keepers across all of our animal areas on the day, you’ll get to see first-hand what it’s like to work with animals.

Keeper for the Day sessions run on the second weekend of each month, and have places for 5 people per session. It will run from 10am to 2.30pm, but if you’d like half a day – let us know!

A typical day will run as follows:

10am Start
10am-11am Work on the Zoo with animals including the Lemurs and Meerkats
11am-12pm Work with the Large Mammals including Ponies, Alpaca and Donkeys
12-12.30pm LUNCH!
12.30-1.30pm Work with the Small Mammals, including Rabbits and Rodents
1.30-2.30pm Work on the Exotics section, including Reptiles and Amphibians

Keeper for the Day weekend dates:

  • March – 10th/11th
  • April – 7th/8th
  • May 5th/6th
  • June 9th/10th
  • July 7th/8th
  • August – 11th/12th
  • September 8th/9th
  • October 13th/14th
  • November 10th/11th
  • December 8th/9th

We have a maximum of 5 Keeper for the Day participants on each day, but a minimum of 3. If you’re booked onto one of our dates and we don’t hit the required 3 participants – you’ll automatically be booked onto the next month’s activity (we’ll be sure to keep you updated and in touch).

  • Children will be automatically booked onto the Saturday date each month, adults onto the Sunday
  • If you’d like to come for half a day- let us know if you prefer morning or afternoon

Prices for the activity:

  • Child half day – £40
  • Child full day – £60
  • Adult half day – £60
  • Adult full day – £100

How to find us:

You can find us off the A51, we’re opposite the Equine Centre on the main road; take the old College Drive.

Head up the drive and follow the Zoo signs to Animal Management, we’re on the left. You can park in the car park beyond the 2 buildings, and you’ll find us in the larger of the 2 buildings.
