What skills do I need?

You don’t need any formal skills but a keen interest in adventure sports and the outdoors is essential! Your GCSE results will determine which level course you come and study. For entry requirements take a look at each course page.

What are my job/career options after this course?

Depending on what level course you study career options vary from working as an outdoor instructor, in a leisure centre, holiday company work in the UK or overseas, the uniformed services, the adventure tourism industry, teaching and much more.

What qualifications will I get?

This will depend on which level course you choose to study. Find out on each course page in the ‘At a glance’ section.

There is also a chance to sign up to extra National Governing Body Qualifications in addition to the main qualification.

Where will I study, what are the facilities like?

Reaseheath’s own facilities include an indoor Climbing Wall with lead walls, a High & Low Ropes Course and a Lake. Outdoor equipment includes Laser Picos &  RS Vision Sailing boats, Lapierre Raid 500 Mountain Bikes, a range of modern kayaks and canoes, a full range of Climbing equipment & Winter Mountaineering equipment, Genesis Compound Bows for Archery and a range of Bushcraft equipment.

Will my course cost anything?

Students aged under 19 will not be charged tuition fees. If you are aged over 19 visit the 19+ Further Education Tuition Fees page.

Will I go on any trips or study tours?

You will participate in a number of residential weeks during each year of the course. The cost per year for board, lodging and the contribution towards specialist equipment will be £285 (1st year) and £150 (2nd year). £185 is to be paid at enrolment and the remaining £100 (for 1st years) is to be paid by 1st February 2014 (costs are for the current year and may be subject to change)

What equipment will I need?

Students on an Adventure Sports course will need walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, a head torch, a rucksack (40 litre recommended), sleeping bag, water bottle, unbreakable flask, orange plastic bivvy bag, water sports/wetsuit boots and plenty of warm clothing (seek staff advice if required before purchasing).
Sports trainers and appropriate sports kit will also be required for a few of the units within the course.

All students will also be required to purchase stationery and reference textbooks.

Is work experience part of my course?

All students will undertake work experience, how much will depend on which course you are studying. Please check course pages for details.

Will I be doing stock duties?

The only time you will be required to attend outside college hours is at our family festival in May.
