Academy of Land and Environment

The Academy of Land and Environment brings together expertise and resources from our Agriculture, Countryside and Horticulture departments to enable you to learn the skills you need to shape the future of farming, food production and sustainable environmental conservation.

Changes to food production and funding will see an increase in the need to understand the impact of farming practices on the environment and to conserve and enhance biodiversity, soil health, water quality and reduce pollution. Healthy environments and attractive places to work and live are important for all of us and so creating and maintaining parks, open spaces, sports facilities and rural estates is also vital.

The need to think, behave and work more sustainably to counter the effects of climate change and pollution and to protect our world has never been more essential.

If you’re passionate about making a difference, a course in our Land and Environment Academy could be the perfect choice for you.

Shape the future of farming and food production with our Agriculture and Horticulture courses, explore and save aquatic life by studying Aquatic Ecosystems and Fisheries Management or help protect the UK’s natural environment with our Environmental Conservation course.

Or maybe you want to manage trees and woodland for sustainable development with a Forestry and Arboriculture course or find out how roles within Game and Wildlife Management, such as pest control officer or gundog trainer, fit into working in an ever-changing environment. If you like working outdoors and want to manage greenspaces like parks, gardens or sports facilities then take a look at our Horticulture and Landscape courses.

Maybe you like working with flowers and have creative flair – our Floristry courses might be just for you. There are so many possibilities!

As a student within the Academy of Land and Environment, you will be given the opportunity to study a broad range of additional qualifications and gain relevant vocational experience in other related areas. This will give you more career options when you complete your studies and will help you to shape and create a better and more sustainable future.
