About:
This distance learning course is perfect for anyone wanting a successful career as a veterinary receptionist. Alongside working in a veterinary receptionist role, you will gain confidence in maintaining a safe working veterinary environment, as well as developing your knowledge of veterinary products, practices and terminology. Veterinary receptionists play a crucial role in managing client experiences, which consequently impacts on practice reputation.
The course will take place entirely online, starting in January and September each year (see dates below). To apply, you need to be working as a veterinary receptionist, in either a paid or voluntary role. The course content will be delivered by a mixture of live, tutor-led digital sessions and online independent study provided by the tutor.
Entry requirements:
- GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at grade 3/D or above (this will be discussed on an individual basis)
- Either a paid or voluntary position working a substantial number of hours each week as a veterinary receptionist in a vet practice to support your course

Course information:
- Approximately 6-12 months
- You will be required to attend a centre to sit examination/s
Units studied:
- Working safely in a veterinary practice
- Principles and practice of veterinary reception
- Maintenance of a veterinary reception area
- Assisting with the supply of veterinary products
- Essentials of veterinary terminology
How the course is assessed:
- Online portfolio of practical skills
- 30 minute multiple choice MCQ exam taken at a VetSkill approved centre
Course cost:
- £1,000
- Includes registration fee and one examination fee (re-sits are charged additionally)
- Can be paid by the student, vet practice or a combination of the two
- Can be paid in instalments or one lump sum
