You will be studying within the Academy of Land and Environment’s agriculture department as well as our world class food department, and learn through a combination of classroom-based theory sessions, practical hands-on experience working on the college farm and in our food production halls, and through a day of on-line learning.

  • Meat and meat science
  • Dairy practicals – you’ll make ice-cream, butter and cheese!
  • Develop business and marketing ideas
  • Producing food safely
  • Understanding product components through their scientific properties
  • Knowledge of plant and soil science
  • Machinery operations within the sector
  • Managing environmental activities in agriculture
  • Farm livestock production, husbandry and health
  • Crop handling storage and farm assurance
  • Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths depending on previous qualifications
  • You will have the opportunity to work towards additional qualifications

How long will it take?

  • 2 years, full-time

What qualifications do I need to start?

  • 4 GCSEs at Level 4 or above, which must include English, Maths and a Science

What qualifications will I gain?

  • This is a combined qualification made up of the Level 3 Diploma in Food Technology and Management and the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Agriculture
  • Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths depending on previous qualifications

Course options after this programme

This course is the equivalent to 3 A levels and will allow you to progress into higher level study, for example onto one of our Agriculture or Food Science degrees at University Centre Reaseheath.
