You’ll have the chance to study the Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma in Aquatic Ecosystems and Fisheries Management supplemented by a Level 3 Maths qualification and a work placement with a leading employer. Also incorporating an additional research project, this course offers an ideal progression route for motivated individuals who are keen to work within the field of fisheries management.

What qualifications do I need to start?

  • 5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above to include English, Maths and Science at grade 5/B, or
  • Relevant Level 2 Diploma in Countryside and Environment at Merit or above with GCSE grade B in Maths and English
  • Those with other level 2 qualifications will be considered on a case by case basis

What qualifications will I gain?

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aquatic Ecosystems and Fisheries Management
  • Level 3 Core Maths
  • Level 3 Extended Project qualification

Successful completion of these 3 elements will result in the awarding of the Technical Baccalaureate performance measure

  • Still water fishery creation and management
  • Cyprinid fish farming
  • Mechanisation in fish husbandry

You will also have the chance to work towards additional qualifications:

  • One NPTC qualification in each year of study e.g. Chainsaw Maintenance, Pesticide Application, Use of Firearms and ATV

  • Water quality
  • Water pollution control and management
  • Coarse game and sea angling techniques
  • Freshwater and wetland management
  • Fishery management
  • Fish population surveys and management

You will also have the chance to work towards additional qualifications:

  • One NPTC qualification in each year of study e.g. Chainsaw Maintenance, Pesticide Application, Use of Firearms and ATV
Industry mentor

Depending on the route chosen – all students complete an industry based placement and will be assigned an ‘Industry Mentor’ who will provide support and guidance during your course programme.

This will help you to develop the knowledge, experience and skills that will best prepare you for a career in the Fisheries industry.

If a sandwich year placement is undertaken (year 2 of the programme) this is for 12 months

How much will this course cost?

If you are under 19 on 31st August 2019 the tuition fees and exam costs are free for our courses. If you are aged 19 or over you may have to pay a fee.

You may also be required to pay costs associated with study tours or additional qualifications.
