You don’t need any formal skills but a keen interest in horticulture is essential! Your GCSE results will determine which level course you come and study. For entry requirements take a look at each course page.
What are my job/career options after this course?
Depending on what level course you study, career options vary from designer and craftsperson, commercial food and amenity grower, nursery manager, gardener and much more.

Where will I study, what are the facilities like?
Reaseheath offers an extensive range of facilities to provide you with the theory, practical and design experience you need, including 30 acres of formal gardens and grounds, a plant nursery and glasshouses, a demonstration fruit and vegetable garden and hands on practical allotments and extensive sports facilities as well as having established links with large scale growers. The department also has a state of the art design studio suite with modern ICT facilities with the latest software packages of vectorworks for the art, design courses both at FE and HE levels. In addition the department works with the Construction department and the range of professional workshop facilities to offer the craftsperson elements of the Art and Design programme.
Will my course cost anything?
Students aged under 19 will not be charged tuition fees. If you are aged over 19 visit the 19+ Further Education Tuition Fees page.
Will I go on any trips or study tours?
Horticulture students participate in a wide range of visits and trips to outstanding private and historic gardens, commercial businesses and growers, sports turf and sporting venues and will have the opportunity to attend relevant events and wholesalers as well as a study tour to Holland. Details about these trips will be given to students nearer the time.
What equipment will I need?
Students on a horticultural course will need safety boots, overalls, safety gloves, secateurs, waterproof clothing and a student portfolio folder.
Other equipment will be specified within each unit.
All students will also be required to purchase stationery and reference textbooks.
Is work experience part of my course?
All students will undertake work experience, how much will depend on which course you are studying. Please check course pages for details.
Will I be doing stock duties?
The only time Horticulture and Sports Turf students are required to attend outside college hours is at our annual Family Festival in May.
