Transition to T Level in
Food Science
Supporting young people to progress onto and succeed on a T Level
The T Level Transition Programme provides a high-quality route onto T Levels, for students who would benefit from the additional study time and preparation that it will give them before they start their T Level. For those students who choose not to go on to a T-Level the course also provides a recognised qualification and the foundation to go on to a Food Apprenticeship.
What will I study?
This qualification is designed primarily for learners who wish to develop their food skills and understanding to support progression to further learning, develop knowledge and/or skills in a subject area.
The qualification covers mandatory practical food skills and knowledge in areas like:
- Mixing
- Shaping
- Heating
- Cooling
- Finishing
- Presenting food products
Learners have a large choice of skills in the mandatory group of units, including general areas like:
- Hygiene
- Safety
- Quality.
There will also be units in employability and enterprise skills and food industry knowledge to meet learning and development needs.
How long will it take?
- 1 year, full time
What qualifications do I need to start?
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at 3 or above including Maths & English
What qualifications will I gain?
- Level 2 Certificate in Food Industry Skills
- Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths depending on previous qualifications
