Maths and English courses for adults

These courses for adults will start again in September 2019 – dates and more information will be confirmed nearer the time. If you wish to register your interest, please contact alison.haberfield@reaseheath.ac.uk.

We have a range of FREE Functional Skills and GCSE maths and English courses for those who would like to improve their skills or those wanting to gain a qualification.

The Functional Skills qualifications will equip you with the skills needed to live, learn and work successfully and will enable you to apply the skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and other real life situations. The qualifications can also help you secure a place when studying on other courses and apprenticeships or applying for jobs and promotions.

You will be placed in groups dependent on the level that you are working towards, so that you are in a group with similar students. If you don’t already have a GCSE grade C/4, then this course is absolutely FREE for you.

Our expert teachers will develop your confidence, understanding and skills in a friendly, supportive and positive learning environment.

Functional Skills in Maths

Who are these courses for?

These courses are for adults (aged 19+) who are looking to enhance their CV or career prospects through an improvement in maths skills.

The course is FREE for anyone who does not already have a grade C/4 in maths. This course will suit you whether you are currently in or out of employment, or in higher education without a level 2 maths qualification.

What will I study?

The course will cover a range of maths skills including:

  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Percentage
  • Fractions
  • Decimals
  • and much more

When will the course run?

  • TBC
  • There may be a requirement for you to do some directed revision in the evenings
  • Please note: you will need to attend an initial assessment and enrolment event prior to starting the course

What qualifications do I need to start?

There are no entry requirements for this course, the level of study you are placed on will be determined by the initial assessment.

What qualifications will I gain?

Dependent on the level you will gain:

  • Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Level 2
  • Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Level 1
  • Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Entry 3

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed with your progress throughout the course and a Functional Skills maths exam will be taken.

Progression opportunities:

  • You can progress on to a full or part-time course
  • Enhanced job prospects
