Maths and English courses for adults

We have a range of FREE Maths and English classes in both Functional Skills and GCSE for those who would like to improve their skills or gain a qualification.

Our expert teachers will develop your confidence and understanding in a friendly, supportive and positive learning environment.

Functional Skills in Maths/English

Summer functional skills workshop courses are under review as college currently closed to students. We will update this page as soon as we more information.

Due to the current situation with covid-19 we are unable to run this workshop in June. Instead, apply now to start in August 2020.

Who are these courses for?

These courses are for adults (aged 19+) who are looking for a short course to improve their maths and/or English skills to enhance job prospects or as a stepping stone into further study.

The course is FREE for anyone who is UK resident, 19+ and does not have a grade C/4+ in the subject.

When will the course run?

Our Functional Skills Maths and English courses are studied part-time over 15 weeks. New courses start in September and January and there is the opportunity to join an intensive workshop course in June. Classes are held at Reaseheath College on Tuesday evenings (English) and Wednesday evenings (Maths) 6-9pm.

What will I study?

There are 3 pathways on functional skills Maths and English: Entry 3/Level 1/Level 2. You will cover a range of skills depending on your pathway. At the start of the course, there is an initial assessment to identify your best FS route – it is possible to progress through the levels or start directly on Level 2 if that is the best pathway for you.

GCSE in Maths/English

Enrolment for 2019-20 is now closed, interest can be registered for September 2020.

Who are these courses for?

These courses are for adults (aged 19+) who are looking to enhance their CV and career prospects or go on to further study by gaining a GCSE in maths and/or English.

The course is FREE for anyone who is 19+ and does not already have a grade C/4 in the subject.

When will the course run?

Our GCSE maths and English courses are studied part-time over one year. The courses are studied one evening per week at Reaseheath College with a range of online resources to support learning. Courses start in September and exams take place in May and June. GCSE English classes are on Tuesday evenings and GCSE Maths are on Wednesday evenings from 6.30-9pm.

What will I study?

At the start of the course, there is an initial assessment to identify your strengths and weaknesses in the GCSE topics and any additional needs. During the course, there is an outline program of topics to be studied and your teacher will give you feedback on your progress. You can work on topics to meet your individual needs at a pace that suits you. You will be expected to complete study outside the classroom to consolidate your skills.
