RADA to visit Somerset Larder with NFU Chair and North West producers

Following on from our hugely successful Food Procurement event in November 2015 (see the full article here) Annette McDonald, Head of Commercial Services and Project Development and Emily Fisher our new Food Commercial Manager will be travelling to Somerset on the 24th April with Ray Brown (NFU Cheshire Chair), Mike Gorton (North west Dairy Board Chairman) and a delegate of local producers to visit the Somerset Larder producers, distribution and catering units with a view to create a “Cheshire Larder”. Linking in with the Governments Plan for Public Procurement (part of the 25 year plan for Food and Farming) we are working closely with Greg Parsons from The Somerset Larder to create a North West food consortium which could result in long term economic sustainability for the food and farming sectors and at the same time enable communities to eat fresh and nutritious food which has less impact on the environment. The 25 year plan for Food and Farming encourages buyers for government funded public services like schools and hospitals to source food locally and we want to make sure Cheshire’s growers and producers are perfectly placed to be able to fill these large contracts.
