West Lake CIC

KS4 Alternative Provision Qualification

Our KS4 alternative provision programme is designed to offer young people (year groups 10 & 11) who struggle with the traditional classroom setting, to experience a different style of learning environment and to gain a Level 1 employability qualification. Our course offers learners a different style of classroom and focuses upon building employability skills in a practical and engaging programme. The programme is based at Westlake CIC site on the Wirral Cheshire border, in Little Sutton, and is offers the NOCN Level 1 Skills for Employment, training and Personal Development.

The educational programmes work in small groups of 8- 10 learners and focusses upon a qualification that can be practically based with a reduced amount of time spent upon paperwork, but rather conducting practical assessment and traditional classroom-based learning. The programme focuses upon building skills that will transfer into a further education or workplace progression. These skills include teamwork, personal goal setting, communication skills, Health and Safety awareness and sector specific skills such as animal care, horticulture and outdoor management. Alongside the qualification we value building friendships, having a positive work ethic, and developing aspirations.

We provide ongoing support for students who have graduated from out alternative provision programme and hope to build their confidence to transfer into a mainstream college or work-based learning.
