A group of equine students from Burrows Lane Equestrian Centre, entered a knife crime competition run by Cheshire Police. From many entries we were selected as one of 16 finalist groups. For reaching the final stages, all groups were invited to go for a visit to Safety Central, Cheshire where they got to see a range of situation where students had to consider their safety – both in a shop, at a railway station, on the road and at home. One of the most memorable events was watching a laptop burst into flames as it had been left on a bed and so overheated. Students were lucky enough to receive a talk from Louis Bamber of Live Your Life Drop the Knife and also from a perpetrator of knife crime who talks to young people to discourage them from using knives as weapons.

The students entered a 2 minute clip into the competition (above) but the whole video was much longer as it included interviews with the mother of a knife crime victim and also a nurse who treats knife victims when they are admitted to hospital. The longer video won the BeReady Excellence competition for 2018-19 and was a worthy winner.
