Macmillan Coffee Morning
A bake sale was conducted in the canteen to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Posters had been put around the canteen before hand to advertise the event. Fun games and tasks were also put up next to the stand for both students and staff members to take part in. The bake sale itself raised over £70!
Ask for Angela
A stand was set up in the canteen and rub by SA members to make students aware that this project was currently running. A walk around was also conducted, making students aware that the project stand was on in the canteen. Posters were also created and placed in places around the bar such as in the female toilets.
CPR Project
An interactive stand was run outside the student life office in the canteen. Demonstrations on CPR dummies were performed to students, showing how to conduct CPR and what to do in case of an emergency. The project was run by first aid trained SA members and got the students involved in actually practicing CPR.
Internet Safety
Informative posters were stuck around the campus, giving guidance on the do’s and don’ts on social media. The aim of the project was to make students aware on how to be safer on the internet, from things such as scammers, catfishes and just dangerous situations.
Help the Homeless
For the help the homeless project, we teamed up with the local Nantwich food bank to help donate much needed food items. A stand was conducted in the canteen to make students aware that the food bank donations were happening. A list of food items was presented on a poster, as well as other posters informing students how many people were homeless in the UK and that teenagers were a high percentage of these numbers. Food donations were then dropped off to the SA office to then be given to the charity.
Drink Awareness
A stand was set up at refreshers fair, interactive quizzes were available for the students to take part in and a drinking unit comparison and informative website was set up on ipad for anyone to put in the amount of alcohol they intake in a week (these could be kept private or done with friends). Informative posters about support lines were also presented on the stand.
Drug Awareness
The drug awareness project stand was run alongside the drink awareness stand at refreshers fair. Interactive identification games were available for students to get involved with and have a go at identifying the drugs in the photo. Informative posters about the effect’s drugs have on people were created, and once again a help/support line number and website were available for anyone to privately contact.
Sexual Health and Consent
An interactive stand was set up in the canteen and later moved to the bar. The project had the support of Cerys (who comes in every Monday lunch to give support and guidance on sexual health to students). She further brought us along some merchandise to help advertise both our project and her weekly lunchtime drop-in sessions. Informative leaflets were created on how to stay safe and where to go if anyone had any concerns or queries about anything. Fun interactive games were set up to get the students attention and make the project and stand fun as well as serious and informative.
This Girl Can
A motivational project stand was set up outside the student life office in the canteen to advertise the new sessions ‘This Girl Can’ are running. Informative posters about ‘This Girl Can’ as well as inspirational posters were on a pin board to help grab the attention of students walking by. SA members who are also ‘This Girl Can’ ambassadors talked to students about what they personally have learnt and do in the sessions, as well as what it has done to their confidence. Ideas of what people wanted to see and do were listed as well as possible ideas to start an ‘Everybody Can’ session.
Volunteering
A walk around popular areas where students sit to have lunch was conducted with interactive PowerPoint and advertisements to the Reaseheath social media pages. The PowerPoint included what students can do to become involved with projects, social nights or just the college in general. One of the projects other aims was make day students aware that they can attend socials and balls in the evenings.
Careers Project
An online meeting was set up with staff members from both the careers and wellbeing departments. The discussion mainly consisted of how we can help advertise both departments online for students to look at and interact with over quarantine. Posters advertising that both careers and wellbeing are still helping support students online have been posted out on Reaseheath social media pages. Further posters such as how to write a CV have also been posted. More specific posters for each department will continue to be made over the isolation period.
