Families across Cheshire and the north west are being invited to step into the heart of the countryside this weekend as Reaseheath College and University Centre prepares to open its gates for its popular Lambing and Mini Zoo Weekends.
Tickets are still available for this popular event which offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the most important moments in the farming calendar, just as spring begins to stir.
Lambing is a defining time for British agriculture, marking the transition from winter into a new farming year. While the scenes may look idyllic, it is also one of the most demanding periods on the farm. At Reaseheath’s fully working commercial farm on its Nantwich-based campus, students and staff work around the clock to monitor expectant ewes, prepare lambing pens and provide hands-on care when lambs arrive.
Visitors will be able to view the lambing sheds, see healthy new born lambs and speak directly with agriculture students and staff about the care involved in giving each lamb the best possible start in life. While live births can’t be guaranteed, there is always plenty to see, including lambs bonding with their mothers during their crucial first days.
Event Manager Steph Owen said: “There’s something about lambing that really marks the start of spring. Seeing new life on the farm never gets old, and it’s lovely to be able to share that moment with visitors of all ages.”
Reaseheath has a long history of agricultural education, with farming taught on the Nantwich campus since 1921. Today, students gain real-world experience using modern facilities and industry-standard practices, working alongside experienced lecturers, shepherds and vets during the lambing season.
The Lambing and Mini Zoo Weekends are designed to be welcoming and informative for all ages, particularly families who may be less familiar with farming life. Alongside lambing, the Reaseheath Mini Zoo will be open, giving visitors the chance to see animals ranging from meerkats to reptiles. A Farmers’ Market will also be on site, showcasing local food producers and countryside crafts from across the region.
With limited capacity each day and strong demand expected, visitors are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
