Food Courses for Adult Learners

Our Food Centre is the first educational institution in Britain to achieve the internationally recognised British Retail Consortium (BRC) Grade AA certification for our facilities, which include our commercial dairy, a butchery, a commercial bakery and innovation rooms. We also use our Food Centre to offer training courses to businesses, ranging from mandatory courses such as food safety and manual handling, to bespoke courses such as bakery, patisserie and yoghurt manufacture.

Level 2 Manual Handling

If you work in a role that requires you to lift and carry various objects, and you would like to gain a basic understanding of the principles of safe manual handling techniques, this is the perfect course for you!

During the course you will learn to:

  • Identify the hazards of manual handling
  • Understand the injuries caused by manual handling
  • Identify risks involved in manual handling
  • Identify the controls available
  • Identify what to expect from a manual handling assessment

This one-day course, which costs £85, will be running on:

There are no entry requirements to join this course. Once you have completed the Level 2 in Manual Handling, you may wish to progress onto the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety.

Introduction to Lean Manufacturing

Would you like to understand how to use business improvement techniques? Gain the skills you need with our Introduction to Lean Manufacturing course!

This course will allow you to understand how you can improve the effectiveness of a work environment and how to approach problem solving in a structured manner.

The techniques you’ll be taught can be applied to a variety of sectors from manufacturing through to office-based roles. You will be taught how to ensure that business processes are planned and executed as efficiently as possible, while identifying and minimising waste and ensuring the highest quality.

Level 2 HACCP

On this Level 2 HACCP course you will develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to implement a HACCP plan in your workplace. You will also gain a basic knowledge of food safety systems and work within a HACCP team.

To book onto this course, you must have already completed the Level 2 Food Safety qualification.

You will be assessed on what you have learnt with a multiple-choice exam.

This one-day course will be running on:

Level 3 Risk Assessment

Would you like to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively carry out risk assessments? If so, studying the Level 3 Risk Assessment course at Reaseheath College is for you.

  • Appreciate the risks linked to cross contamination
  • Understand the role temperature has to play on the control of food safety

You will be assessed on what you have learnt with a multiple-choice exam.

  • 28th February – 2nd March 2022
  • 6th – 8th June 2022

Dairy Science, Milk Processing & CIP

Our Dairy Science, Milk Processing & CIP course will give you a good understanding of the chemistry of milk and cream in relation to processing and equipment hygiene.

This introductory course is suitable for beginners, so if you don’t have any prior experience in this area, don’t worry! You will cover processing unit operations including pasteurisation, homogenisation, separation, and filtration.

There will be two days of theory and one day of practical during this three-day course which will be running on:

Butchery – Basic Knife Skills

If you would like to know how to choose and maintain your knives for butchery correctly, and learn how to use them safely, our Basic Knife Skills course is for you.

  • How to maintain a sharp knife and the range of sharpening equipment
  • Safety equipment and the safe use of knives in a working environment

  • State the importance of HACCP based food safety management systems
  • Explain the management and implementation of HACCP based procedures
  • Outline the development of the HACCP based procedures
  • Evaluate HACCP based procedures
