Foundation Pathways
The Foundation Pathways include options at Entry 2 and 3 and will equip you with essential personal, social, and employability skills, and is designed to develop your independence, self-confidence, and self-awareness.
You will receive plenty of support and be empowered to achieve your full potential, taking into account your individual needs in an inclusive and student centered approach.
What will I study?
- City & Guilds Certificate in Skills for Working Life (Entry 2)
- Career Ready
- 60 hours supported work experience through supported work placement
- English and Maths (Functional Skills/GCSE) based on prior attainment and initial assessment
Programme intent:
The programme is focused on developing the personal, social, and practical skills that prepare students for adult life.
This programme is underpinned by the four pillars of Preparation for Adulthood:
- Employment: Gaining the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to take part in the workplace.
- Independent Living: Learning practical skills to manage everyday tasks and make safe choices.
- Community Participation: Engaging with others and contributing to the local community through activities and projects.
- Health & Wellbeing: Developing awareness of healthy lifestyles, personal safety, and resilience.

- Make a Familiar Journey Safely
- Healthy Living
- Introduction to ICT
- Working as Part of a Group
- Recognise Types of Animal Housing and Bedding for Small Animals
- Recognise Types of Foods and Feed Small Animals
- Recognise, Use and Care for Tools Used in Conservation
- Plant an Area to Attract Wildlife
- Prepare and Plant an Area
- Weed a Planted Area
- Wash the Outside of a Motor Car or Van
How long will it take?
- You study programme will be for the full academic year and your days of study will be for 3 full days per week
- Skills for Working Life is a 1 year programme
What qualifications do I need to start?
- You do not need exam passes to start but you do need to be at entry 1 in literacy and numeracy
- You will have at least one interview and an assessment of your literacy and numeracy and support needs before you are offered a place

This pathway supports students who want to focus on personal development, preparing them to progress confidently onto an Entry 3 programme or the Employability Pathway, with a clear understanding of their strengths, interests, and next steps in education, work, and adult life.
