Equine students at Reaseheath College and University Centre will have a new opportunity to gain competition experience, with the launch of a National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) programme at the institution.
The programme will give students the chance to train, compete and represent Reaseheath in dressage and show jumping, while developing their confidence, teamwork and experience in a competitive environment.
Open to riders of all abilities, the programme will support students taking their first steps into competition alongside experienced riders looking to progress towards regional and national events.
Students will have the opportunity to train with Reaseheath horses and receive coaching from experienced industry professionals, with the programme designed to complement their studies and give them additional opportunities to develop their riding.
Among those supporting the programme is Reaseheath equine instructor and professional rider Tyler Simpson, who brings extensive competition and industry experience to the college.
Tyler studied both Further and Higher Education equine courses at Reaseheath before developing a career in the industry. He continues to compete in dressage at regional and national level and eventing at regional, national and international level, alongside his work as an instructor and coach.
He said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to gain competition experience, work as part of a team and develop their confidence.
“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some brilliant coaches throughout my career and I’m looking forward to helping students develop their skills, achieve their goals and make the most of every opportunity available to them.”
James Rayner, Curriculum Area Manager for Equine, said the programme would provide opportunities for students with a wide range of experience.
“We have students coming to us with a wide range of experience. Some have never owned a horse or competed before, while others arrive with significant competition experience.
“This programme allows us to support both ends of that spectrum. It gives students opportunities to challenge themselves, develop confidence and gain valuable competition experience while enhancing their overall time at Reaseheath.”
The NSEA programme is part of the wider range of opportunities available to Reaseheath students studying equine courses at Reaseheath to develop their practical skills and gain experience beyond their core studies.
James added: “Tyler is a real asset to our equine team. He brings industry insight, a genuine passion for coaching and a level of professionalism that really resonates with our students.
“Having people with current industry and competition experience working alongside our students is a really important part of what we offer at Reaseheath.”
Through the NSEA programme, students will be able to gain experience of competing as part of a team, with opportunities to progress from local competitions towards regional and national events.
