What will I study?
You will develop advanced technical skills and knowledge to:
- Work either within an employer’s workshop or on-site using a fully equipped service vehicle.
- Act as an ambassador for the employer’s business and the products represented in a customer-facing role.
- Deliver technical support to end users, dealership networks, or manufacturing operations.
- Support customers with the installation, setup, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of land-based equipment throughout its full operating lifecycle.
- Conduct inspections, consultations, and produce condition reports.
- Diagnose and repair complex faults in prime movers, machinery, and equipment.
- Prepare repair proposals and implement timely, cost-effective solutions.
- Verify machinery performance against manufacturer specifications and customer expectations.
- Understand the interaction between machinery, biological systems, crop conditions, and the working environment to optimise performance and efficiency.
- Perform multi-disciplinary diagnostic activities involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, autonomous, and automated systems.
- Communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including colleagues, suppliers, manufacturers, businesses, and the public.
- Work to specification, quality requirements, and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Take responsibility for managing and completing assigned tasks.
- Work safely within land-based environments, understanding health and safety requirements and the implications of lone working.
- Supervise or mentor junior colleagues where required and provide advice to customers on machinery selection and advanced technologies.
- Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths may be required depending on your previous qualifications.
How long will it take?
- 24 months (block release) plus a 6-month End Point Assessment (EPA) period.
What qualifications do I need to start?
- Completion of the Level 2 Land-Based Service Engineer Apprenticeship is required before starting this programme
- Preferably 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths
- A good understanding of IT systems
- Completion of an entry assessment
