Animal Management
Practical Clothing requirements September 2025 to September 2026
- There are two options for practical clothing:
- Option 1 (Preferred):Overalls that can be worn over normal clothing (in a dark colour), Steel toe capped boots/wellies
- Option 2: Uniform: Dark utility trousers/shorts, dark coloured polo shirt / Jumper, Steel toe capped boots/wellies.
(PLEASE NOTE – from September 2026, Option 2 will be discontinued to standardise and improve working practices at the college going forward).
- Jewellery is documented in a number of zoo risk assessments as an avoidable hazard to persons and animals and for this reason, jewellery should be removed. Where a learner tells a member of staff that jewellery cannot be removed, a blue plaster may be worn to reduce the risk of the above (Blue plasters will not be provided by the college).
- Hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back.
- ID badges should be worn at registration, but can be either tucked into overalls or carried in a pocket during practical activity.
- Nails should be kept to a short length in the interest of hygiene. False nails are not permitted.
- During inclement weather, it is advisable to bring warm clothes e.g. gloves, scarves, waterproof and windproof clothing. Sunscreen is advisable when working outdoors in summer.
- At the end of practical, sanitise and wash hands and pack practical clothing into a separate bag so that it can be taken away and washed before it is next used.
- Anything brought in can be stored in one of the holding bins at Animal Management during a practical lesson, the college cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal property, please consider this when deciding whether to bring in Valuables, or items of sentimental value on a day when practical lessons are due to take place.
Where learners are unable to meet the above, they may not be able to participate fully which could result in action by the college to address the unsatisfactory levels of attendance, engagement or progress.
Theory Lesson requirements September 2025 to September

- Learners are welcome to bring devices such as a laptop or surface to a lesson as long as it used only for work in classes and the students are responsible for their possessions whilst at college.
A reading list will be supplied to learners where required at the start of their programme.
Bakery, Pâtisserie and Confectionery
Preparing for Level 2 and Level 3 Bakery and Pâtisserie 2025-2026
Equipment needed
- 5 x White Reaseheath Logo Coats (£20 each Total £100)
- 1 x Food Grade Safety Shoes (£25)
Personal Protective Equipment must be worn during practical sessions in the Processing Halls and are to be purchased through the college supplier. Orders must be placed with payment at the beginning of August. The PPE is then delivered to Reaseheath ready for the new term to start. PPE purchased from other suppliers will not be authorised and will not be allowed to be used in practical lessons.
It is recommended that orders are placed at the beginning of August.

Laundry Costs
All Personal Protective Equipment are laundered commercially by our suppliers; the cost is £80.00 per student per year payable via the college on-line shop Food Centre Laundry | Reaseheath College Online Store (two separate payments of £40).
**The first instalment for Laundry fee’s is to be made before September start ( non refundable)

Environmental Conservation
For practical sessions
- All weather gear – waterproofs and warm fleecy clothing. Waterproof trousers if you have them. Please ensure that these aren’t so expensive that you can’t get muddy in them. You will get muddy!! #
- Steel Toe cap boots – Essential for all practical work and machinery operations. You can’t do practicals without them!
- Walking boots and /or Wellies.
- Rubber palmed gloves – gardening gloves of a medium thickness will be fine. Make sure they fit your hands properly.
- Clipboard or Weather writer – very important for surveys and other practicals.

For classroom sessions:

Please note Reaseheath branded clothing is not a requirement, however the following clothing is required:
- Navy/black/grey coloured jodphurs, poloshirts and sweatshirts are required.
- Riding hat (all students) must be current standard (advice can be given if required)

- Riding Boots (riders only) Long riding boots and jodhpur boots with leather gaiters are permitted. Suede chaps are not allowed. All boots must have a thin sole, no laces up the sides or front of the boots are permitted. A small amount of lace over the bridge or front of the foot is acceptable.

- Coats must be navy, back or grey – no logos and must have a full length zip.

- Wi-Fi is available through the college so laptops or tablets are optional as we have ICT suites available, but they can be used in classroom setting if already have the item.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) – this can be purchased either through the Reaseheath College online store (students name is an option to have embroidered on the items) or from a website/shop of choice.
