Introducing Niccy McCluskey – BSc (Hons) Zoo Management (Top-Up) student
Hi, my name is Nicole and I am a final year BSc (Hons) Zoo Management (Top Up) student. As this is my last year, I think that it would be a great chance for me to write a blog, to help parents, my peers and future students understand what it means to be a student here from a student’s point of view.
As an Animal Science student, I get the chance to go and do hands on experience at the zoo here on site, where there are 1,000 mammals, reptiles, birds and fish. My long-term goal is definitely to work with animals, but whether that be on a farm, zoological establishment or rehoming centre, I am not sure.
As well as being able to work on the Zoo, I am also embarking on my dissertation; “How microplastics affect the marine environment; what could happen in the future”. Hopefully, I will be able to further this research in the future.
I took the chance to be a part of this year’s Freshers Crew, which involved two weeks of helping to prepare the college for my fellow students returning and then two weeks of enrolling new students and slowly introducing them to the college with induction activities and icebreakers. The freshers period has just finished and it has been the best four weeks of my college experience so far; getting to know people and helping them get used to the college.
Reaseheath has on-site accommodation which both college and university students live in. We are able to get involved with so much outside of lecture time with all the activities and events that are put on by the staff and students across campus. Living on-site means that you have your own independence and are able to be part of a unique experience, something I would not have gained, if I had not come to University Centre Reaseheath.
