From shaping the next generation of equine professionals at Reaseheath College and University Centre to representing the industry on a national stage, James Rayner’s dedication to the sector recently earned him a very special honour – an invitation to Buckingham Palace.
The Equine Curriculum Manager attended a Royal Garden Party on in May in recognition of his 14 years of service to the National Equine Forum and his wider contribution to the equestrian industry.
James was invited by the organising committee of the National Equine Forum, one of the UK’s leading platforms bringing together industry leaders, experts and government representatives to discuss the key issues shaping the future of the sector.
He has been involved in supporting the delivery of the Forum for more than a decade, helping to facilitate national-level discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing the equine industry.
The invitation was extended in recognition of his long-standing service, alongside his wider engagement across the sector. Also attending was the Forum’s longest serving member of the Organising Committee, Vice-Chair, Dr Pat Harris (Mars Horsecare), a world-renowned specialist in equine nutrition.
During the event, James was briefly introduced to Queen Camilla in the receiving line.
Reflecting on the day, James said: “Being invited to a Garden Party was a wonderful acknowledgement of my 14 years of service to the National Equine Forum and the wider equestrian sector.
“It was a wonderful occasion and an opportunity to meet people from a wide range of organisations and backgrounds who have all contributed to their sectors and communities in different ways.
“The challenges and opportunities facing the industry continue to evolve, and I remain committed to supporting constructive discussion, collaboration and positive progress within the sector. I look forward to continuing to contribute in a way that is practical, purposeful and beneficial to the wider equine and land-based community, helping to support a strong and sustainable future for the industries we serve.”
James added that his involvement with the National Equine Forum helps ensure Reaseheath students benefit from direct insight into national industry priorities.
“My involvement with the Forum enables me to remain closely connected to the issues, opportunities and developments shaping the equine industry at a national level. This helps ensure our curriculum remains relevant, forward-thinking and aligned with the skills, knowledge and professional standards needed by the next generation entering the sector.
“While the invitation acknowledges my personal contribution to the equine industry, it also highlights the value of having staff who are actively engaged in industry leadership and national-level initiatives.
“This benefits our students by ensuring their education is informed by current industry priorities, emerging opportunities and future workforce needs. It also demonstrates the important role Reaseheath plays in supporting and influencing the future direction of the industry.”
Marcus Clinton, Assistant Principal and CEO, said: “Everyone at Reaseheath is delighted to see James receive this recognition. His invitation to Buckingham Palace is a reflection of the respect he has earned across the equine industry through many years of dedicated service and involvement.
“James is passionate about ensuring our students receive the very best preparation for their careers, and his connections with organisations such as the National Equine Forum help keep our curriculum relevant, forward-thinking and closely aligned with industry needs.
“This recognition is not only a proud moment for James personally, but also for Reaseheath as a college that continues to play an active role in supporting and influencing the future of the equine sector.”
