Veterinary Nursing
This qualification is designed for individuals who are passionate about animal care, enjoy practical, hands-on work, and are committed to developing a career in veterinary nursing.
The Level 3 Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship is the recognised route to becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN). As a result, applicants are expected to have significant experience working within a veterinary practice before starting the course, either in a paid or voluntary role and to have secured employment.
For applicants who do not yet have the required level of veterinary practice experience, we recommend completing our Animal Management T Level. This course provides learners with a strong foundation in animal care, welfare, health, and husbandry, while offering valuable industry placement opportunities to develop practical skills and experience.
What will I study?
- Providing high-quality nursing care for a range of animal species.
- Assisting with medical and surgical procedures, including anaesthesia.
- Carrying out diagnostic tests and administering medication safely.
- Supporting emergency and critical care patients.
- Promoting animal health, welfare, and infection prevention.
- Understanding veterinary legislation, health and safety, and professional practice.
- Working in line with the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct.
- Developing effective communication, teamwork, and client care skills.
- Building the confidence and professionalism required to work successfully in veterinary practice.
How long will it take?
- 2.5 – 3 years, with 1 day a week at Reaseheath
What qualifications do I need to start?
- Statutory requirement: 5 GCSEs to include Maths, English and Science of grade C and above or equivalent.
