Bethany Allman-Scott – Class of 2026

Level 3 Environmental Conservation

Bethany Allman-Scott has gone from starting at Reaseheath with a passion for wildlife but little confidence in her academic potential to securing a place on a degree in Wildlife Conservation and Ecology.

The Course

Bethany initially applied for the Level 2 Environmental Conservation course after leaving secondary school. Her tutors quickly recognised her potential and encouraged her to progress directly onto Level 3. During her Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Conservation and Wildlife Management, she developed both her knowledge and practical conservation skills.

Her studies included surveying and machinery work, while a placement with Natural England gave her the opportunity to put her skills into practice, including surveying for the rare White-faced Darter dragonfly. She also discovered a rare moth while taking part in a BioBlitz at Reaseheath.

The Achievement

For Bethany, one of her biggest achievements has been the progress she has made academically and personally. Her assignment grades developed from passes to distinctions as her knowledge and confidence grew.

“I have never had the confidence and been given the opportunity before to believe in myself that I would achieve to go to complete a degree.”
She credits the support of her tutors, progress coach and the Learning Skills Centre with helping her believe in what she could achieve.

What’s Next

Bethany will return to Reaseheath in September to study BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation and Ecology. After her degree, she is considering either progressing to a Master’s degree or moving into employment in ecology.

“I am most proud of myself for gaining the confidence and being supported and believing in myself to follow my dreams.”
