Socials and upcoming events

Alright guys,

Getting back into the swing of things,

Since we have been back for Christmas we’ve been busy trying to get all the events organised for this term. Upcoming socials are now up on posters around campus so make sure you keep an eye out in order to match the theme. The social this week is a onesie social carrying on the theme of the day from our onesie day. We’re going to try and get our principal in a onesie on this day as well to show the spirit at all levels, with photographic evidence.

Onsie Day - RAG fundraising

In the first week back at college the SA have been busy coming up with ideas for more fundraising events for the term ahead.  One of our main events is the residential football team’s charity tour around the country to other land-based colleges. Other events include the silent disco and the Battle of Nantwich and Holly Holy Day. This is taking place on the 25th January and we will be stewarding for both events and selling the holy badges. Our Valentine’s Day bag will be taking place on the 12th and 13th of February, all money raised will be going to St Luke’s.

Welcome back

Alright guys,

First of all, I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year and welcome back!

The Winter Ball was a great success, thank you to the entire SA who stayed up late the night before to decorate the bar and dining room for the evening. We have had praise from the Principal and Vice Principal saying how impressed they were and everyone who attended seemed to really enjoy themselves. Here are some photos from the evening:

In the first week back at college the SA have been busy coming up with ideas for more fundraising events for the term ahead. These include a onesie day and social which is taking place on Thursday 23rd January and clothes donations (we are encouraging staff and students to donate any unwanted clothes to St Luke’s so they can sell them in their shops). The SA’s three peaks challenge is going to kick start our RAG week, dates to be confirmed soon; also the Principal will be joining us for the challenge.

The Valentine’s day/RAG social is on Thursday 13th February, £1 of every ticket bought will go towards this years RAG charity. In the near future we have lots more events coming up, if you would like to get involved we are always looking for volunteers.

Are you interested in being a member of the Student Association next academic year? We’re looking to get the 2014/15 SA set up by May this year so if you are interested let me know and come and get involved!

Merry Christmas from the SA

This is my last blog entry of 2013…

This Saturday we have our third fundraiser in Crewe town centre, and we are hoping to beat the money raised last week with the cunning use of a big, cuddly, teddy bear mascot.

The Student Association Facebook page is now up and running so if you would like to get involved with any fundraising events, or if you just want to know what’s happening around college, then like it and keep checking it!

The Carol Service will take place on Monday at 3.30pm and will be led by our chaplain, Drew Walker.  It would be great to see a lot of students there to show their support, the service will also have a modern take on the meaning of Christmas.

For the first time in 5 years the Winter Ball tickets have sold out well in advance of the event. The meal tickets also sold out a week before the event date. Some of the SA members went on a decoration shopping trip on Thursday so we can decorate the bar. This means that the bar will be closed all day on Tuesday in order for the SA to decorate and transform the place.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and hope you have a great New Year!

SA Kayaking Challenge

The first big fundraiser of the year is done and dusted! Our challenge was to kayak the length of the River Weaver in 4 hours 45 minutes. We raised a total of £87.65 in the canteen which, given that most of the donations were from students, is quite impressive.

Kayak Challenge saWe also covered the distance from Dover to Calais and back in 5.5 hours. This took place in Crewe town centre on Saturday and we raised a total of £114. We are hoping to beat that this Saturday coming when we have another kayaking challenge, this time we’ll be taking along the St. Luke’s Hospice mascot.

As of Sunday Christmas Ball tickets will be on sale to residents from the bar. The rest of the tickets will be on sale on Thursday for day students. Ball tickets are £5 or £8 for the meal and ball ticket, the dress code is black tie. Look out for the Christmas ball posters around campus for details.

This year’s RAG charity…

Alright guys,

Everything is starting to come thick and fast now! We have just decided the menu for the Winter Ball so keep an eye out for that info. Our Press Officer has designed some amazing posters and tickets for the ball which will be up around college in the next week, also tickets will be on sale soon!

st-lukes logoThis week we have chosen our charity and we are very happy to say that we will be supporting St Luke’s Hospice. We have a couple of events planned to start raising money in December. We are always looking for volunteers to help with fundraising so if you fancy getting involved your more than welcome.

We’re being ambitious this year and are thinking way ahead of Christmas already. We will be stewarding at the Battle of Nantwich Holly Holy Day on Saturday 25th January to raise money for RAG. Which I might add is a good day out if you like history…

Winter Ball planning and RAG

Alright guys,

Second blog now, this week after our meeting on Monday, we have been organising the decorations for the Winter Ball. We have also been discussing possible menu options for the meal which is on Tuesday 17th December. Tickets will be on sale soon so keep asking us for more info…

This week we are hoping to announce our charity for this year’s RAG. After a couple of weeks of process elimination we have shortlisted three and are looking forward to their presentations. We have a couple of events organised to kickstart fundraising in December.  The fundraiser will involve a kayaking challenge over a fair distance in both Nantwich and Crewe on the 7th and 14th December 2013.

Another event that we have organised is to steward for the Xmas lights switch on in Nantwich on the 30th November 2013, this will be happening from 4.30pm till 7.30pm. About 8 members of our SA will be volunteering their own time to help raise a donation for RAG.

Introducing your President…

Alright guys, this is my first blog post for the Reaseheath Student Association! This blog is for keeping all Reaseheath students up to date with what’s going on at the college. Bit about me, my name is Sam Norfolk aged 20, I’m on the second year of the FdSc Adventure Sports course.

Over the last week or so, the Student Association have been collectively working on picking a charity for this year’s RAG, we’re hoping to announce this in the next couple of weeks. We have also started planning for the Winter Ball which includes decorations, menu and the DJ/band.

We have also got together to talk about some fundraising events for RAG and coming up with some challenges for us to complete throughout the year, I’ll keep you posted!

Last week we had our infamous Bavarian night which is a miniature German beer festival in the bar for over 18’s. This night was massively successful and the atmosphere was unbeatable. Check out some of the photos here, the rest can be found on Facebook.

I’ll be blogging every week so keep an eye out!
