The Course
Jack particularly enjoyed the practical outdoor side of his Land and Wildlife course, developing skills in woodland management and machinery use.

His experience included using chainsaws, chippers, strimmers and brush cutters, as well as practical woodland management projects. He also worked with hazel to create dead hedges and hazel hurdles, helping provide wildlife habitats using materials already available on campus.
The Achievement
Jack took his development further by completing additional chainsaw and brush-cutting tickets in his own time, recognising that extra industry qualifications would help him stand out to employers.
Since starting at Reaseheath, he says he has developed a much stronger practical skillset and a deeper understanding of conservation, tree identification and woodland management.
What’s Next
Jack has already started work with an arboriculture company, where he can build on his experience and work towards gaining further industry tickets.
Looking further ahead, he hopes to gain enough experience to progress into a countryside ranger role, potentially with an organisation such as the National Trust.
