Rules and Regulations
Our residential provision offers a safe, inclusive, and social environment that supports personal growth and creates lasting memories. To maintain this positive atmosphere, all learners are expected to follow the rules and regulations outlined below (excerpt from your Accommodation Licence Agreement).
- Comply with all health and safety and fire safety instructions and guidance and must not interfere with any fire alarm, detector, extinguisher, sign or other fire equipment. Any misuse will be subject to our disciplinary procedures and you may be subject to the costs of repair and any costs of fire service attendance.
- Not interfere with any electrical installation or use any form of heating or electrical adapter except those provided by us.
- Ensure that all electrical appliances used by you are Portable Appliance Tested and agreed with Residential Services for use in the Room or Common Areas. We reserve the right to carry out PAT tests on your appliances if necessary and pass on the cost of such testing to you.
- Kettles, toasters, coffee pod machines, lidded George Foreman griddles, air fryers can be used in kitchens. They must not be left unattended whilst in use and switched off and cleaned after use. These items cannot be used in bedrooms due to fire safety issues.
- Not use candles, incense sticks, barbeques or other ignitable materials because of the serious risk of fire.
- Not cook in the Room or any Common Area except for the kitchen, nor keep any fridge or freezer in the Room (unless a fridge/freezer is by prior agreement for medical reasons and on medical evidence).
- Not possess any weapons and/or anything which we consider dangerous, offensive, combustible or explosive.
- Not possess/use/produce/supply any unlawful drugs or new psychoactive substances (legal highs).
- Not smoke or use e-cigarettes in the Room, Common Areas or anywhere on campus except in the designated smoking and e-cigarette smoking areas.
- Not impede our staff and/or contractors in the performance of their duties and comply with reasonable instructions of Residential Services, Estates and any other staff. Such instructions include providing college identification when requested to do so.
- As part of our community of students, you agree to uphold the College Values in your behaviour whilst a student with us. In particular you will:
- Show consideration to other residents including keeping noise to a minimum and not making the Common Areas dirty or untidy. Parties and excessive noise are not permitted.
- Keep the Room and Common Areas reasonably clean and tidy and not remove furniture, equipment, fixtures or fittings from the Room or Common Areas or cause damage to property.
- Report any damage/repairs required to the Room or Common Areas immediately to the Head of Student Services at the time of discovery.
- Not keep Pets (assistance dogs only by prior arrangement).
- Not cause a nuisance to or harassment or bullying of other residents, students, staff or neighbours on any grounds, including on grounds of sex, race (which includes colour, nationality, ethnic and national origin), disability, religion or belief, age, pregnancy, gender reassignment or sexual orientation.
- Adhere to British Values, which are integral to our College Values and in particular, not behave in a way that may be perceived as promoting extremism or inciting hatred or violence or any breach of the criminal law.
You agree that we may enter and search the Room where we reasonably suspect that you or any other person is behaving in a way that is a risk to health or safety or may amount to a criminal offence. We may confiscate any article, which in our reasonable opinion presents a risk to health and safety, and we may hand it over to the police.
Additional residential rules for under 18’s
- Rooms are occupied as single sex rooms and you MUST NOT take or let anyone of the opposite gender into your hall. Over 18 students/visitors are NOT permitted entry to Under 18 halls of residence. This does not include parents, carers or registered legal guardians. Under 18 students MUST NOT go into halls that are designated for Over 18’s only. Under 18 day time students are only permitted in accommodation if they are signed in as a guest.
- Being in possession of, or the consumption of alcohol is NOT permitted on college premises (including in social facilities) or be under the influence of alcohol or any other illegal substance such as drugs.
- Students that turn 18 while living in Under 18 halls MUST NOT take alcohol into the halls or bring other Over 18’s into the halls. They do not, however, have a curfew.
- You MUST inform the Residential Services Team when you wish to leave the campus at any time, including leaving to go home, and inform them of your destination. You MUST hand in your student identification card to the Residential Services office. You MUST return by 11pm, collect your card immediately from the Student Support Officer and be back in your hall by 11.30pm. If you need to go out or are running late you should get permission from the On-duty Student Support Officer, call 07889-216789. Failure to do so will result in the Student Support Officer informing your parent/guardian of your absence.
- You must hand in your student identification card to the Residential Services Team if you return home for the weekend and collect it immediately from the Residential Services Office on your day of return.
- If your parent/guardian gives permission for you to remain away from campus after 11pm, we reserve the right to rescind this permission if you behave in an unreasonable manner.
- Students MUST be respectful to college staff and other students.
- Residential students are expected to maintain high attendance on their course. Illness should be reported to the on-duty Student Support Officer and their course manager.
- Students MUST NEVER interfere with or damage college property, this includes tampering with CCTV cameras, buildings, signs and barriers.
- Residential students MUST NOT bring guests back to campus, exceptions may be made for family and friends visiting which MUST be signed in as visitors and MUST leave campus by 11pm. Over 18’s can have one overnight visitor on Friday and Saturday nights if they are signed in as a guest with the Student Support Officer in the Residential Services Office.

Community Guidelines
1. Community Conduct
- Be respectful off-campus; you’re a representative of the college.
- Keep noise to a minimum, especially late at night.
2. Pets
- Not allowed: in halls or college transport.
- Allowed: Assistance dogs (with application and required documentation).
3. ID Badges
- Must be worn at all times on campus for identification.
4. Car Parking
- Valid parking permit required (from the Transport Office).
5. Noise
- Be respectful of others’ schedules.
- Ask politely if others are too loud.
- Contact Student Support for ongoing noise issues.
6. Communal Kitchens
- Keep shared kitchens clean.
- Use your own items; ask before borrowing.
7. Room Tidiness
- Rooms cleaned biweekly; bins emptied daily.
- Excessive untidiness = no cleaning and staff report.
- Domestics clean, not tidy — they will lock the door after entry.
8. Smoking/Vaping
- Only in designated areas.
- Strictly prohibited elsewhere on campus.
9. Room Inventory
- Complete the Room Inventory Form within 48 hours of arrival to avoid damage charges.
10. Guests
- Accommodation is age- and gender-specific:
- E.g., Only under-18 males in under-18 male halls.
- Over 18s: Overnight guests allowed Fri & Sat only, must match age/gender rules.
- Guests must be signed in/out; students are responsible for them.
11. Drugs
- Zero tolerance.
- Possession or influence leads to disciplinary action.
12. Bullying
- Zero tolerance for bullying.
- Report to Student Support Officers: 07889 216789.
13. Under 18s: Site Access & Curfew
- Sign out your ID when leaving.
- Return by 11:00 PM, inside by 11:30 PM.
14. Alcohol (Under 18s)
- Illegal to possess or consume alcohol under 18.
- Enforced both on and off campus.
15. Conduct Policy
- Covers academic and residential conduct.
- Ensures a safe and respectful community.
