Beginner Courses

Small Animal Keeping for Beginners (Rodents and rabbits)

Price: £90

Would you like to gain an introduction to small animal husbandry, handling, and health?

Join us for this one-day leisure course which specifically focuses on rodents and rabbits and will give you the experience and confidence to work in an environment which holds animals such as rescue centres, pet shops, zoos, and charities.

You do not need any qualifications to join, but you must have a keen interest in animals and be over 16 years old.

Dates:

  • 15 February 2023 – 10am – 4pm
  • 31 May 2023 – 10am – 4pm

You will be studying in our Animal Management Centre so please wear appropriate footwear, which is preferably nonslip, closed-toe, waterproof or water-resistant.

Reptile Keeping for Beginners

Price: £90

This program will give learners an introduction to reptile husbandry, handling, and health. This course is for learners who are seeking to gain more knowledge as a pet reptile owner. These skills will also give learners experience and confidence when working in an environment which holds exotic animals such as Rescue Centres, Pet Shops, Zoos, and Charities. Learners must be 16 years old and above.
What content the program will cover: Feeding, handling and accommodation for reptiles.

Amphibian and Invertebrate Keeping for Beginners

Price: £90

This program will give attendees an introduction to amphibian and invertebrate husbandry, handling, and health. This program is for individuals who are seeking to gain more knowledge as an amphibian and invertebrate pet owner. These skills will also give you experience and confidence when working in an environment which holds animals, such as Rescue Centres, Pet Shops, Zoos, and Charities.

Introduction to Dog Grooming

Price: £120

Who this programme is for –

This programme gives learners the opportunity to learn the basics of dog grooming. These skills will give a learner the experience and knowledge to become more confident in grooming their own dog and a taster for individuals wanting to pursue the very first stages of becoming a dog groomer. This course is suitable if you are 16 years old or over.

City & Guilds Courses

Price: £250

Would you like to gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working with reptiles?

Join us for this two-day course where you will cover core topics such as reptile animal housing and social groupings, feeding reptiles, reptile husbandry tasks and ethics, handling, and basic health checks.

If you are looking for a career within the animal care industry, then this qualification is for you!

Join us on this two-day course to gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working with animals in the animal care industry.

You will cover core topics such as small mammal animal housing and social groupings, feeding small mammals, small mammal husbandry tasks and ethics, handling and basic health checks.

This two-day course will next be running in our Animal Management Centre on:

If you are looking for a career within the animal care industry working as a pet sitter, then this qualification is for you!

Pet sitting can involve looking after a wide range of animals including cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as exotics, pet pigs, chickens, sheep or goats.

You will cover core topics such as the roles and responsibilities of a professional pet sitter, current legislation and codes of practice, potential problems and emergencies.

To complete this qualification, you will be required to achieve a one-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning.

You need to hold a Level 2 qualification in an animal-related area to join this course, such as: Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care, Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care, Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Animal Care, Level 2 Diploma in Equine Care, Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture, Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Animal Health, Husbandry and Handling 6 Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Pet Sitting.

Would you like to gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent dog walker?

If so, this two-day course, which is the only recognised qualification for dog walkers at this level, is for you!

Learn the core skills you need to progress to work as a dog walker, by covering core topics such as roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker, legislation and codes of practice, breeds and behaviour, walking and controlling a dog, problems, injuries and emergencies.

To complete this qualification, you will be required to achieve a one-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning.

You do not need to have any formal qualifications to join, but you do need a keen interest in animals.

This two-day course will next be running in our Animal Management Centre on:

  • 30 – 31 August 2022 (9am – 5pm)
  • 7 – 8 November 2022 (9am – 5pm)
